Definitions of networking terms:

Bandwidth-the difference between the highest and lowest frequencies used in data transmission
Data transmission- the process of moving any kind of data or information from one place to another.

Protocol

Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP):

Two protocols that work together to transfer data between two computers across the Internet. TCP controls the connection between the two computers. IP manages the movement of the data, in individual packets, between the two computers.

Internet Packet eXchange/Sequenced Packet eXchange(IPX/SPX):

Two protocols that work together to transfer data between two computers across the Internet. IPX is a protocol that sends data packets to requested destinations, such as workstations and servers. SPX verifies and acknowledges successful packet delivery to any network destination by requesting verification from the destination that the data were received.

NetBEUI:

A User interface developed for using a network operating system on PCs.

Apple Talk:

A network protocol developed for Apple computers.
